There’s a saying that goes: “Jack och all trades, king of none”.
I think that pretty much sums me up. And for years and years that has bothered me quite a bit because I always want to be the “King” of whatever I put my mind into. I don’t want to be a freaking Jack!
But lately, and as I was looking at all my friends and family who have “made it in business”, I realised something: They are specialists. They are “kings” of their trade. But also very few of them are jacks of anything else really, because they have been so dedicated to their own specific speciality. They have fully applied themselves to their field and that has brought them money, much more than I have, and success in the traditional sense.
What I have realised is that I am successful too. But in a non traditional sense.
My point is that being curious of all things – a jack of all trades – as it’s called, is something amazing. It has given me a relatively broad understanding of the world, culture, businesses, people and much more. And on top that it has awarded me with so many fantastic, weird and challenging experiences that have made me who I am today.
And for a jack of all trades I’ve become pretty good at my speciality too, I must say. And the best part, I’ve got like forty years more to become even better. Can you relate?
What’s the rush, let’s keep experiencing…
